Walter “Rocky” Ray Colvin, Red Oak, passed away on March 06, 2018 in Waxahachie, Texas surrounded by his family.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will take place on Saturday March 10, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Driggers & Decker Family Funeral Home in Red Oak, Texas.
Walter was born on December 29, 1940 to William and Eva Mae Colvin in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Grand Prairie High School in 1959. Walter retired from the Dallas Police Department after 26 years of dedicated service in 1991. He worked as the theatre manager at the Uptown Theatre in Grand Prairie. He also, taught firearms training at the Dallas Police Department for many years.
Walter was an early organizer and a driving force behind the Grand Prairie Girls’ Softball Association. He and the leadership of the GPGSA established the sports complex “Cottonwood East” for the association. “Cottonwood East” is now known as McFalls Park. Walter loved to travel, WINSTAR and playing BINGO. He also enjoyed making movies from the endless pictures he took. He was a loving family man and will be missed by all.
Walter was preceded in death by parents, William Thomas Colvin and Eva Mae Colvin.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Karen Colvin; children, Keith Thomas and Cindy Colvin, Kathi Walker and family, Lisa Kay and Alan Pyle, Paul James and Renee Evans and Elizabeth and Jamie Miller; brothers, James Colvin and Dwight “Tom” Colvin and his wife, Becky; grandchildren, Harrison and Quincy Colvin, Brandon, Garrett, and Kenny Pyle, P.J. Evans, Alex and Holly Evans-Peterson, Korky, B.J., Magoo and Wednesday Miller.
