Larry was born on April 18, 1948 in Harman, Virginia to Joseph Ellison and Virginia Maye Mastin. He was raised in the backwoods of Kentucky, down in the holler. He grew up monetarily poor, but his life was rich with love and adventure. Larry graduated from Feds Creek High School in 1966 in Feds Creek, Kentucky. His father, Joseph, worked as a coal miner for many years. Larry tried the coal mine for 2 days and then decided the Air Force was a better fit for him. He joined the United States Air Force in 1967 and served two terms until 1976. During his service he was a Drill Sergeant and later a Missile System Analysis Specialist. After he was discharged, he moved to Irving, Texas and spent over 40 years in the welding supply business. Before, his passing, Larry worked for Metroplex Welding Supply of Dallas, Texas. During Larry’s free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family and working in his yard. He was a perfectionist and it showed because he always had the best-looking yard in the neighborhood. Larry was a sweet and kind man, his Kentucky roots showed when he offered a helping hand or gave you a warm smile. His presence will be missed by all who knew him.
Larry was preceded in death by his daughter, Sheridan Mastin; his parents, Joseph and Virginia Mastin and his brother, Steve Mastin.
